Open Doors at Bersham Colliery
Volunteers from North Wales Miners Association Trust open the gates of Bersham Colliery, with the kind permission of Wrexham County Borough Council, on the last Sunday of the month throughout the summer months and to groups by appointment.
This year the Trust are hosting an Open Doors event on Sunday, 30th September from 10am until 4pm.
The Grade 2 listed Engine House has had much work done over the last 2 or 3 years with roof, metalwork, windows & doors all receiving attention. Much more to be done but a good start has been made.
Inside the Engine House the winding engine and the engine driver cabin can be seen in situ. The headgear itself, a Grade 2 Scheduled Ancient Monument, is the last one left on the North Wales Coalfield.
Tony Jones, NWMAT’s resident lamp collector who has an amazing knowledge of safety lamps, will be once again holding a lamp workshop. If anyone has a lamp hidden away in the attic, why not bring it along for Tony to have a look at.
Come along and see for yourself the changes made over the last few years.
The popular miner’s bus will on site with some of the tools of a miner’s trade on display.
NWMAT, a charitable trust, is always on the lookout for new members with an interest in the industry, to help keep the mining heritage of North Wales alive and well.
Anyone who feels that they can help will find secretary Margaret Jones on the miner’s bus.
