Last night the centre was used to accommodate local residents from Bangor-on-Dee and elsewhere who were affected by flooding, in our role as an emergency evacuation venue.
This again highlights the role the centre plays as an important hub for residents in Wrexham.
@wrexham
Severe flood risk: Emergency services are asking residents of Bangor on Dee to evacuate properties and proceed to Ysgol Sant Dunawd immediately.
DO NOT try to leave the area yourself. 4x4 vehicles will be utilised by emergency services to evacuate residents from the school.
We have issued a severe flood warning for Bangor on Dee. Latest every 15 mins. (LINK)

@NigelSouthsea @wrexham The grid at the end of lower mill drive has been damaged (blocked ) for years nothing done soon as the water come over from the old wrec (bowling green us first few residents got it in our houses fuming is not the word 😡
So I live next to a field that has planning permission in Rossett and want to build on but this was our garden today? I wonder what will occur if/when they have houses on said field! @wrexham
@wrexham He was not helping a teenager, my teenage son was helping him to evacuate people. The teenager in question is my 14 year old son who has been out all evening helping to sand bag houses and carry belongings for people who have been evacuated!
@wrexham That young man in the video has been out all night helping sandbag houses and evacuate the elderly. He's my Grandson and I'm very proud 😍
Horrendous day for New Broughton village, flood waters up to 3ft deep. mountain rescue in attendance having to rescue vulnerable people by boat from bungalows. People having to take shelter in Southsea church. @wrexham
Some added context to this vid has been given, told that the takeaway driver had driven through coned off road that had been shut for around two hours - and almost collided with a member of the fire service who was helping a teenager - and conducting ongoing rescues. (LINK)
@wrexham 90 year old grandfather has been left in one of those properties. Has been advised to call 999 if water levels rise, I understand services are stretched but with water at the door and seeping in he should be a priority for evacuation.
@wrexham weathers going from one extreme to another 🤣 one hour it’s torrential rain the next it’s snowing (and settling!)
@wrexham be careful on holt road just after the speed camera heading towards town, just smacked my wheel on this. 😑
@wrexham The fire service could be helping people who’s houses are flooded if they didn’t have to waste time on stupid people.
Latest from Council - “The amount of water in places is very deep, up to waist height. Please don’t ignore road closed signs. We have evacuated some properties in New Broughton with the assistance of mountain rescue due to high water levels.” More here 👉 (LINK)
“What are you doing?” Firm / exasperated exchange between fire service and a driver in New Broughton tonight. Fire service after mentioned person was trying to deliver food and could not understand why it was a problem. (More: (LINK) )
Anyone know where people with disabilities can go if house is flooding in @wrexham please?

Drivers using the lanes of Erbistock to get to/from Ruabon please be aware they are single track lanes with very few passing places that also have a lot of flood water, I was faced with a surge of oncoming traffic after taking supplies to an elderly relative! @wrexham
Thank you to all of our wonderful foodbank volunteers, especially these three ladies who ran the session in a car park in the pouring rain this afternoon!
@wrexham It’s not just blocking roads. It’s flooding peoples houses! People are are ringing to request sand bags and the calls are going unanswered. Sort it WCBC!
@wrexham In favour of protecting core services, but these raises feel like death by a thousand cuts. I'm aware the settlement from Cardiff is sub-par, but there needs to be a point of redress beyond raising tax. Quality of core services are declining markedly, too.
Council say "All available resources are being deployed across the county to deal with significant rainfall and surface water blocking many roads” (LINK) (LINK)
Looks like council tax is going to go up - is it a "small price to pay" to "protect core services" that "we will need more than ever" as we emerge from the pandemic hopefully soon? (LINK)
@wrexham
And it's only been getting worse. Wonder when the last time @wrexhamcbc unclogged the drains? Is that information that could be gained via FOI?
Cllr David A Bithell Lead Member Environment and Transport met with NRW earlier today - he said “I was disappointed only a 'warning letter' was given as the extent of the fire was significant” (LINK)
River levels in Wrexham are very high at the moment with many roads flooded. The river here in Bersham is at road height now. Please drive to the conditions and do not ignore road closures.

Big thread from WG over vaccine issue.

As of today all frontline staff at the Welsh Ambulance Service have been offered a vaccination.
Our priority is to ensure that our frontline NHS health care workers are vaccinated as soon as possible.
The First Minister has reiterated what he said in a reply to a question from us on Friday - today the BMA and others have reacted (LINK)
