This past weekend, a small group of swimmers (from Wrexham SC, who train locally at Waterworld and Clywedog) traveled to Llandudno for the North Wales Sub-Regional Championships.

The Championships are a meet that provides swimmers with the opportunity to race in new events, and to also achieve qualifying times ahead of the North Wales Championships next February.

This was an excellent weekends racing by all the swimmers, who together achieved:

25 first time swims (many in the longer events, 400m 800m, 1500m),
75 Personal Best Times (PBs)
34 medals (8 x Gold, 15 x Silver, 11 x Bronze).

Karl Taylor started the ball rolling with Gold in his very first 1500m Freestyle, swimming a time that also put him top of the National Rankings for this event. Sally Jenkins swam to an incredible Gold in the 400m Individual Medley (beating her nearest opponent by 20secs). Later in the meet Cara Bird won Gold in the 100m Butterfly, Ashley Jones in her first ever 400m Freestyle, Euron Roberts in the 200m Freestyle, sister Catrin, in the 200m Individual Medley and Alice Goring won Gold in the 200m Breaststroke. The final Gold was won by the team of Catrin Roberts, Alice Goring, Grace Williams and Ashley Jones in the Medley Relay.

Other Medalist’s included: Evan Price, Tom Hughes, Sam Thomas, Jack Roberts, Rhys Price, Simon Morris, Keely Smith, Lara Becker, Sophie Platt, Megan Lucas-Jones, & Charlotte Thorpe.

Head Coach Craig Prime was proud of the swimmers taking on new challenges within the sport and having confidence in all their hard work (with swimmers training from 4 times/week to 9 times/week depending on age). Their efforts over the past 15 weeks have been impressive and swimmers attitude and commitment have stepped up a level since last year and the results are proof of that. With the club we aim to give each swimmer the opportunity to develop and with commitment and hard work they will become the very best they can be.

Up next for the swimming club is National Swimming League Final this weekend in Blackpool where the club (the only North Wales Club in the competition) will be competing against the best teams in the North West of England. Then they travel to Swansea the weekend before Christmas for the Welsh Winter Championships.
