In the majority of cases CICA will settle claims with one lump sum payment, this way the victim will receive their money and will not have to worry about the stress of an ongoing case. CICA awards compensation in line with their Tariff payments, this means that injuries are categorized and usually a fixed amount of money will be paid out.
In some cases interim payments may be made, these can be up to half of the amount of compensation for which it is recommended. No part of this interim payment will be recoverable if the injury is not subsequently included in the money paid as part of the Tariff, or if included, qualifies for less compensation for less than the compensation than the interim award paid out by CICA. Interim payments will only be made on the basis of the officer of CICA authorizing this.
