Over 40 youngsters from the Communities First Wards of Hightown and Brynteg competed earlier this week in the second annual Junior Golf Fun Day at Bellevue Park hosted by Empowering Youth Foundation and attended by the Mayor of Wrexham.

The festival, won by one of the Brynteg teams, was the culmination of a six-week golf and life skills programme run by Empowering Youth Foundation across the Communities First wards.

Molly Whelan, Executive Assistant of Empowering Youth Foundation was delighted with how things went:  “The day was a great success, lots of fun was had by all. It was wonderful to have the continued support of the Mayor’s office at the event too.  It is amazing to see how much the participants have learnt over just six weeks.”

The Life Skills programme and Fun Day was funded through a grant from Communities First and all youth participating at the festival will be invited back for another six-week programme during the next school term. The course is a progressive programme based on the nine core values inherent to the game of golf including honesty, integrity, sportsmanship and confidence.  The youth are then encouraged to utilise these skills and values in all aspects of their lives.

For further information on the golf festival, how to become a sponsor or volunteer, or future programmes, please contact Molly Whelan on 01978 660800 or email [email protected]
