Young people from Wrexham encouraged to get involved with Wales’ first ever Youth Parliament

Voter registration for Wales’ first ever Youth Parliament has opened and local Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths is encouraging people from Wrexham to take part.

Young people aged between 11 and 18 are now eligible to sign up for the historic first ballot to be held in November.

60 members will take their seats in the country’s first ever Youth Parliament, with 40 members representing the 40 constituencies of Wales and another 20 selected by partner organisations that represent young people.

The Parliament will meet for the first time in February next year and sit for a two-year session.

Potential candidates will be able to register their interest in standing for election from 3 September.

Lesley Griffiths AM is hoping young people from Wrexham register to vote and express their interest in becoming a candidate. She said: “This initiative offers young people the perfect opportunity to identify, raise awareness and debate matters that are important to them.”

“Young people can make a difference via this new democratic forum and I hope all those who are eligible ensure their voices are heard in November’s historic vote.”
