Young people from across Europe arrive at University summer school
Students from Europe have started a month packed with exciting educational and social opportunities at Wrexham Glyndŵr University.
Young people from countries across Europe including France, Germany and Austria are spending the month at the university’s latest Summer School.
The students received a warm welcome to Wrexham during a hog roast at the weekend, followed by an induction morning featuring a range of speakers offering information and advice on university life.
Professor Alec Shepley, Dean of Faculty, Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology, was among the speakers at the Nick Whitehead Theatre.
He said: “I was delighted to see so many people there – I think the Nick Whitehead Theatre was nearly full. It’s really great to see our friends here for a four-week Summer School.”
Wrexham Glyndŵr Students’ Union President, Kieran Irwin, and Vice-President Ebony Banks also spoke to the students about the range of offers the union provides.
“They can get so much out of being involved with the students’ union in terms of their own personal development and also their own social experiences,” he said.
“They can get involved with events and meet new people.”
During their stay at the Summer School, students will explore a range of subjects including aeronautical and mechanical technology, mechatronics, automotive technology and renewable energy.
They will take part in academic lectures and engaging study sessions which will include a chance to improve their English skills.
The students will also have the chance to see more of the area on a series of cultural visits.
In addition to their Summer School, students have the opportunity to stay with Glyndŵr University and complete their chosen BEng course in just one year.
