Yellow Weather Warning For Wrexham In Hurricane Aftermath
A yellow weather warning for Wrexham has been issued overnight as the tail end of Hurricane Gonzalo is expected to pass over the area.
Weather warnings have been issued across the country, with North Wales expected to get battered with gusts of up to 55mph inland and heavy rainfall. Wind nearer coastal areas is forecast to reach 60-70mph
The bad weather comes as a result of the remains of Hurricane Gonzalo passing across the Atlantic.
However the strongest winds are forecast for Tuesday with low pressure clearing eastwards. However the Met Office states there remains ‘uncertainty’ in peak windspeeds, although there remains the potential for travel disruption.
Already Hurricane Gonzalo has caused significant damage to Bermuda, resulting in power outages and widespread damage.
A statement released on the MET Office website reads: “Gales, and more locally severe gales, are expected to affect much of the country on Tuesday.
“Whilst Monday night will see wet and windy conditions sweeping eastwards, the strongest winds are expected to occur after the rain clears and winds veer northwesterly through Tuesday morning. Gusts exceeding 55 mph are likely inland, with 60 to 70 mph gusts in some exposed coastal areas in the west and possibly to around 80 mph around coasts in northern Scotland.
“The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel and possible damage to trees. Difficult driving conditions will result, perhaps exacerbated by surface water and spray in places.”
As usual we will be keeping you all up to date with any changes to the above forecast and any potential travel issues / disruption caused by the weather. Follow @wrexham on Twitter for updates.
