Wrexham’s unique history to be showcased as part of ‘Brymbo: A 300 Million Year Story’ exhibit
A new exhibition shining a light on how Wrexham might have looked like 300 million years ago will launch this week in the town’s newest arts and markets development.
Between Thursday 19th and Saturday 22nd December, the Brymbo Heritage Trust will be transforming Tŷ Pawb’s Gallery 2 into Brymbo: A 300 Million Year Story, a fossil forest experience which will feature treasures from Brymbo’s internationally significant paleontological site.
The hands-on experience will include the chance to meet the site’s resident palaeontologist, get up close and personal with fossils excavated from underneath the former Brymbo Steelworks.
Visitors will also be able to learn about the upcoming work on the site, how to get involved and make a unique Brymbo Fossil Forest themed Christmas gift to take home!
Brymbo: A 300 Million Year Story forms part of Tŷ Pawb’s Urgencies programme, bringing people together to talk about issues which matter to the community.
Visitors will also have the chance to have their say on how they would like Brymbo’s major new visitor attraction to take shape, as it prepares for opening in 2021.
Dr Tim Astrop, fossil coordinator with the Brymbo Heritage Trust, said “The Brymbo Fossil Forest is a unique treasure, a real window into the deep past. We can’t wait to bring Wrexham’s ancient history to life at Tŷ Pawb this Christmas.
“Taking our work to the people of Wrexham is so important to us, we’re excited to talk to people about the project and how they can be involved.”
Brymbo: A 300 Million Year Story will be at Tŷ Pawb daily from 12pm–3pm between Thursday December 19th – Saturday December 22nd.
At 3pm on Saturday, Dr Tim Astrop will be giving a talk about anything and everything to do with the Fossil Forest.
The whole experience is completely free of charge, open to everyone, family friendly, and visitors will be greeted with a hot drink and a mince pie.
