Wrexham’s Poundworld and Bargain Buys to close

Troubled retailer Poundworld has announced the closure of 190 stores with the loss of 2,339 jobs.

Wrexham’s stores had avoided closure, however will shut in the next few weeks, with administrators saying 11 people will be directly affected however that is unclear if that is just the Poundworld store or includes Bargain Buys.

Poundworld is situated on Eagles Meadow, and the town’s Bargain Buys on Regent Street has had well advertised closing down sales for the last few weeks.

Deloitte has said all of Poundworld’s remaining stores will likely close by August 10, affecting 2,339 staff after previous closures over the last month.

Clare Boardman from Deloitte, said: “We would like to thank all the employees for their continued support and commitment during this difficult time. We are keeping staff appraised of developments as they happen.”

The stores will close by 10th of August, and overall 5,100 jobs will be lost as the 335 strong chain collapses.
