Wrexham’s MP Praises Local Environment & Planting Project
An environmental project aimed at enhancing Wrexham’s industrial estate for both wildlife and people has been given some practical support by the town’s MP.
Wrexham MP Ian Lucas joined North Wales Wildlife Trust’s Living Landscape officer Jonathan Hulson and volunteer Jack Halpin to plant some Common Spotted Orchids on the estate.
The planting session took place on verges near Ecodek, a company based on Abenbury Way, which had already been sown with wildflower seeds. The work formed part of the Living Landscapes Project, led by NWWT.
The project works with businesses, landowners and other groups on the estate to demonstrate sustainable land management and to improve access to green spaces on the Industrial Estate.
Mr Lucas said: “An industrial estate might not be the first place people think of when thinking of wildlife but there is a surprising biodiversity on the estate.
“Among the species on the estate which might surprise people are green woodpeckers, grizzled skipper butterflies and bee orchids. The work being done with the Living Landscape project is hugely important to make sure people and businesses recognise – and value – the wildlife on the estate.
“It is not only good for wildlife – it helps improve the lives of the people who encounter nature too. I was delighted to be able to lend my support – and I’d encourage others to get involved too.”
