There’s some bad news for film fans this afternoon with confirmation Wrexham’s Halloween drive-in cinema cancelled.

The event was due to take place at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse on Sunday 29th October.

A statement posted on Facebook today, reads: “We’re sorry to tell you folks, but due to totally unforeseen circumstances – the planned Halloween scare fest drive-in cinema scheduled for Sunday 29th October 2017 has had to be cancelled.

“Our cinema screening company were unable to secure the required OFCOM licence to broadcast the sound into your cars on the evening – a factor that is totally beyond our control, Wrexham Council’s events team’s control and incredibly unusual.

“Tickets have yet to go on general sale – however if you are a This Is Wrexham Card holder and purchased a ticket during the priority window, then a full refund will be provided on production of your ticket at the Wrexham Tourist Information Centre (Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm).

“Plus, those of you who have already purchased a ticket can have a free ticket for our Christmas Cinema on 3rd December which is still going ahead as planned.”

Amanda Davies, Event Manager at Wrexham County Borough Council said: “The whole team has worked furiously to try and find a solution for this over the last week. We trusted the cinema screening company to obtain our OFCOM licence as part of their commission.

“The outdoor cinema screenings so far this year have been a great success, and whilst we have had to regrettably take the decision to cancel the Halloween showing, we stress that our planned Christmas Town Centre Drive-In Movies on December 3 are totally unaffected and will still be going ahead.

“Coupled with this is the huge festive events programme that Wrexham Council is planning for the Christmas season, such as the light switch-on with the Rotary Club on November 23; the Christmas Extravaganza featuring the arrival of Santa on December 2, plus the ever-popular Victorian Christmas Market on December 7.”
