Wrexham’s Bid to Host Two Iconic Poppy Sculptures Unsuccessful
Wrexham Council’s bids to host two iconic poppy sculptures in the town centre have been unsuccessful.
In February Wrexham Council announced they would be putting together a bid to host the commemorative Wave and Weeping Window poppy sculptures.
The special poppy sculptures, which had been previously installed at the Tower of London as part of the commemorations to mark the centenary of the beginning of the First World War.
If successful the sculptures would have been hosted on either Llwyn Isaf or St Giles Church.
However Wrexham Council confirmed today that bids to host either sculpture had been unsuccessful.
Speaking about the news, Cllr David Griffiths, Wrexham’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “I am naturally disappointed that both bids were unsuccessful. We look forward to bidding for Wrexham to host the iconic sculptures in the future.”
Cllr Mark Pritchard, Leader of Wrexham Council, added: “I share David’s disappointment and I would also like to thank staff involved in the bidding process who are still very enthusiastic about bringing the poppies to Wrexham.
This was Wrexham Council’s second bid to host the commemorative poppy sculptures, having initially put the town forward to host the Poppy Wave in 2015.
