Twenty colleagues from a Wrexham-based manufacturing company have taken on a ‘mighty hike’ across Hadrian’s Wall to raise funds for a local hospice.

The team from Mainetti, based on the Wrexham Industrial Estate, took on the 25.4 mile challenge in support of Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham as well as The Lavender Touch, a charity supporting those with cancer in the Scottish borders, which is close to another of the company’s facilities, in Jedburgh.

They walked from Lanercost Priory in Brampton to Brocolitia Roman Fort in Chollerford in one day, with a total of £1,072.50 raised for Nightingale House and £2,063.50 for the Lavender Touch.

A global manufacturer of garment hangers and associated products, Mainetti has two sites in the UK, one based in Scotland and the other on the Wrexham Industrial Estate.

The company is committed to the protection of the environment and operates a closed loop hangers recycling program. This means that the hangers produced in the UK and abroad are returned to the Wrexham site where they are recycled and reused preventing them from being disposed to landfill sites.

Speaking after the trek, Mainetti’s Elizabeth Roberts said: “It was quite a difficult walk in parts and fairly undulating but everyone was pleased to be able to take part with some quite emotional at the end having completed it.

“Nightingale House is an important local charity so having this in mind really helped people to push beyond the limits they thought were possible.

“We like to help Nightingale House where we can and we are just in the process of decorating our company duck which we will be racing in the hospice’s duck race in September.”

In addition to supplying hangers to clients all over the world, Mainetti also supports Nightingale House by donating hangers and other items for displaying goods in the hospice’s shops.

Debbie Barton Area Fundraiser for Nightingale House said: “This was a great effort and we are very grateful to Mainetti for all they do for us. They are regular supporters of the hospice and are always looking for new ways to help us.

“Walking that far in a day is no mean feat but it looked like they had a great time together and the scenery must have been stunning. They should be very proud of how much they raised.”
