Wrexham Tributes To Drummer Rigby & Online Incitement Thankfully Fails
Tributes have been left at Wrexham’s War Memorial to Drummer Lee Rigby who was killed in Woolwich on Wednesday afternoon.
Several bunches of flowers have been left on the memorial, with messages of support for his family.
We are unsure if this is connected to a suggestion that is making its way online; with a suggestion of a ‘floral revolution’ in towns and cities across the country.
The organiser said: “As a mark of respect to Lee Rigby and a sign of solidarity against the cruel, cowardly terrorism we face from such extremists, I would like everyone to start placing flowers at their local war memorial. Every city, town and village has one; place flowers, cards, placards, poems, all saying no to terrorism and letting Lee’s family know just how much we care.
“When his 2 year old son, Jack, becomes older, instead of news reports on his father’s death, he can be shown the outpouring of floral tributes to his father and learn how his father’s death began a ‘floral revolution.”
Online Incitement In Wrexham
On Wednesday evening we found the following comments publicly viewable, that is to say open to all online not just Facebook users, relating to Wrexham.
Below a comment refers to the Islamic Cultural Centre on Grosvenor Road, with one person referring to a ‘mashete’, which we assume should say machete. Another says they will smash windows of the centre.
Several people have been charged with alleged offensive comments on social media around the UK. Charges nationally range from inciting racial or religious hatred, to technical aspects of the Communications Act.
As of yet we are unaware of similar arrests or charges in and around Wrexham for this activity.
