Ruby the pony who became known worldwide after her owner tried to take her on a train at Wrexham General has recently given birth to a foal.

The female pony was formerly owned by local traveller Joe Purcell and both became a media phenomenon after they were seen in pubs, A&E and most famously Wrexham General Station trying to board the 9.02 service from Wrexham to Holyhead.

Mr Purcell said that he took Ruby to A&E as he believed she was pregnant, which was later confirmed by the RSPCA.

However, the pair’s tale took a sad turn when Ruby was taken into care by Wrexham Council after she was left unattended close to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Ruby has since been re-homed with chairman of the North East Wales Bridleways Association, Michelle Crowther from Wrexham, who announced that Ruby gave birth to a white, brown and black colt two weeks ago which has yet to be named.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, she said: “At the moment he’s really shy but it’s Ruby’s fault because she’s very protective and keeps pushing him behind her and making noises as if to say ‘Be careful’ but he’s very attentive and well behaved.”

S4C recently screened a show titled Joe & Ruby which showed Mr Purcell struggling to come to terms with the loss of his pony, although he eventually signed over ownership after visiting the stables where she was due to be homed.
