Wrexham Tenancy Support Turns Ten
The Wrexham Tenancy Support scheme has recently celebrated its tenth birthday.
The scheme celebrated its anniversary with an event at the Guildhall, which was attended by Council leader Neil Rogers and the authority’s Chief Executive, Helen Paterson, as well as tenants who have benefited from the service.
The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Ian Roberts, joined in the celebrations by cutting the birthday cake.
Since its launch in 2003, the scheme has provided support to thousands of Wrexham residents.
The guests were given a talk by a previous client, who talked about her experiences when she was pregnant, and homeless and feeling very low. The woman, who asked not to be named, explained how her Tenancy Support Officer came out to her home and met her for the first time, surrounded by unpacked boxes, and the relief that she felt when no judgements were at all.
This woman settled well with the help of Tenancy Support and went back to University. She is now completing her Masters degree, as well as working within the county borough.
Cllr Mark Pritchard, Lead Member for Housing and Planning said: “As an authority, we have a duty to look after our tenants, as well as those living in private accommodation. The Tenancy Support team offer a vital service and they have done a wonderful job in helping thousands of Wrexham residents over the past decade.”
“The team supported almost 400 people over the last year alone. I would like to thank the team for their incredible work over the past ten years and hope tenants will continue to use this valuable service in the future.”
