Wrexham Swimmers Storm to Success at North Wales Championships
Swimmers in Wrexham have been awarded the accolade of ‘Top Team’ after scooping up a wealth of achievements at a recent North Wales Championship.
Across the past two weekends 76 swimmers from Wrexham Swimming Club have travelled to Llandudno for the 2016 North Wales Championships to compete against swimmers from 19 clubs across North Wales.
The Championship saw swimmers from Wrexham rack up an impressive 49 gold medals, with the group
awarded the Top Team for the 2nd year running on top of the following incredible achievements, including:
• 117 Finals
• 435 Personal Best Times
• 30 Bronze Medals
• 39 Silver Medals
• 49 Gold Medals
Leading the way with an impressive 11 Gold Medals was 11yr old Adam Taylor who won across various strokes and distances. Close behind Adam was 15yr old Tom Thorpe who won 10 Gold Medals (Including a clean sweep of all 5 Freestyle Events) and Andy Reay who won 9 Gold Medals in the 17+ Age Group, including breaking the North Wales Records in the 200m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley.
There were also multiple Gold Medals from Olivia Price (3 – 100m & 200m Breaststroke & 400m Individual Medley), Charlotte Walters (3 – 50m, 100m 200m Breaststroke), Morgan Taylor (2 – 50m Butterfly & 400m Individual Medley), and Karl Taylor (2 – 100m & 200m Butterfly). Gold Medals were also won by Lucy Thomson (50m Butterfly), Emma Jones (200m Freestyle) and Ethan Taylor (50m Backstroke).
Further Medals were won by: Keely Smith, Alice Goring, Catrin Roberts, Callum Welman, Ollie Bowyer-Jones, Sadie Spencer, Mairi Chaplin, Morgan Douglass, Sally Jenkins, Matt Willis, Leila Prendergast, Will Clayton and Eleri Owen.
With the following swimmers making Finals: Charlotte Thorpe, Tom Hughes, Euron Roberts, Evie Price, Neal Allen, Jacob Canlas, Harry Mahoney, Keane Gerasmo, Xander Roberts, Evan Price, Ethan Benton, Cara Bird, Michaela Reynolds, Ben Williams, and Ashley Jones.
In the Relays Wrexham Teams won medals in 16 out of the 18 Relay Events winning an impressive 6 Gold, 7 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals.
A spokesperson for Wrexham Swimming Club said: “Everyone at the club is very proud of the these results as they are not only the best the club has ever achieved at this level but shows off the great depth of talent within the clubs set up.
“The results above and experiences had by all the swimmers will not set them up as we prepare for the Welsh National Championships in March where the club has 31 swimmers who have achieved the tough qualifying times.”
