There’s still time for community sporting groups across the county borough to apply for additional funding to help with everything from equipment to training.

Sports Wales is a Wales-wide project which encourages people to get involved in local sports, and is offering up to £1500 per community group via its Community Chest scheme.

The programme has already seen more than £18,000 given to groups since April, 2017.

Those interested in applying for the current round of funding have until Wednesday 23rd August to do so – with the Sports Wales panel meeting to discuss applications on Wednesday September 6th.

Cllr Paul Rogers, Lead Member for Youth and Anti-Poverty, said: “There are a lot of good sports and athletics groups out there which do excellent work in their community.

“They’re not just helping people to get fit and stay fit – they’re also helping to bring people together, give them a chance to make new friends and socialise.

“I’d encourage any sports groups who think they could benefit from grant support to get in touch and take advantage of this opportunity.”
