Wrexham Speed Cameras Record Over 2,000 Offences and Generate £30,000
North Wales Police’s fixed speed cameras caught over 2,000 speeders and generated more than £45,000 in conditional offers in Wrexham during 2011.
The figures for 2011 were revealed by a Wrexham.com FOI request.
According to police the 30mph fixed speed camera on the A525 Heol Maelor in Coedpoeth recorded 1391 speeding offences, generating £30,720 in revenue from conditional offers.
Meanwhile the one on Mold Road outside the Racecourse Ground caught 872 speeders raising £15,780 in conditional offers.
Surprisingly our request revealed that offences recorded and revenue generated for the Holt Road fixed camera are “nil” for 2011 as the camera site has recently undergone upgrading
The figures do not include revenue generated as a result of court cases as North Wales Police don’t record it.
As we revealed last month the Coedpoeth speed camera caught the second highest number of speeding motorists in North Wales during 2011.
An FOI request in June 2011 showed that it also has the unwanted accolade of being the most attacked speed camera in the region.
The camera was attacked six times during a five year period with damage caused to the front of the lens box and even had paint thrown over it.
Shockingly in an incident in 2008 there was an attempt to set it on fire which led to two arrests.
Wrexham.com has sent in a further request to find out the number of speeding offences recorded and revenue generated by the Holt Road speed camera.
In November of 2003, it was revealed the speed cameras outside The Racecourse football ground on Mold Road was the most lucrative in North Wales, catching more than 4,000 speeders in 10 months and raising £260,000 in fines.
