Hardworking social care students have been awarded for their efforts in a ceremony presided over by the Deputy Mayor of Wrexham.

Students of the Introduction to Social Care course were presented with their qualification certificates by Cllr Bernie McCann, the Deputy Mayor of Wrexham, in a ceremony at the Wrexham Guildhall last week.

The course was funded by Communities First in association with the Workforce Development Team at Wrexham County Borough Council.

The course gave students an insight into the social care sector, providing training in the principles and values required to support children and adults in social care, along with an introduction to safeguarding.

Care homes in the Wrexham County Borough provided placements for the students to enable them to experience social care in practice, which the students embraced.

The course has already seen great success among the students, with two students having already gone on to find work thanks to the course, and a further six in the process of applying.

Cllr Bernie McCann, Deputy Mayor of Wrexham, said: “I felt very privileged to be able to present certificates to successful students on the Introduction to Social Care course.

“The enthusiasm and warmth shown by the students was a very clear indicator of just how successful the course had been, and I’m especially pleased to hear of those who have already gone on to find work or have had interviews as a result of the course.

“I wish them all the very best in their future.”
