Wrexham’s popular ornamental sheep look set to return in the new year – with plans underway to create a sheep trail across the town centre.

The fibreglass flock were removed from their home on St Giles Way following the theft of two sheep and the damage of a third. Following on from the incidents the sheep were moved to a new ‘top secret’ location and have been removed from public view.

More recently Jack Mary Ann and Wheely Good Sheep both made an appearance at the Wrexham Street Festival at the end of September.

However it was announced at yesterday’s Town Centre Forum that the fibreglass sheep, along with some of their friends are set to return to Wrexham in January 2016 to participate in a ‘sheep trail’.

The sheep will also be making an appearance at the Victorian Christmas Market on December 10th.

Speaking at yesterday’s meeting, Town Centre Manager Isobel Garner said: “Two of the sheep came out for the festival, Doris is still poorly and not been able to make an appearance. Jack Mary Ann was in the Oriel and Wheely Good Sheep was in Boots on Eagles Meadow. Next January we can promote the sheep trail and they will be at the xmas market

“The companies who sponsor sheep get to work with an artist and a local school to help with the design – it’s about engaging with community.”

It was also noted in the meeting that an appeal for a local company that deals with fibreglass to help repair the sheep will be issued shortly.

Town Centre Forum Chairman, Nigel Lewis added: “There are lots of towns that do these and they attract footfall and people to go on the trail. It’s great way to get the message out and a great initiative from the Oriel Gallery and Council.”

Following the theft and damage of the sheep last month, a spokesperson for the Wrexham Sheep confirmed to Wrexham.com last month that the future ornamental sheep will have concrete in them to weigh them down and help protect then.
