The summer holidays may be over and the kids may be back in school, however there is still lots on in around the town for you to do. The Open Doors project is continuing and Saturday is full of plenty of activities for all of the family.

Friday 13th September

Brynkinalt Hall. Open Doors 2013

Brynkinalt Hall is a stunning Grade II* listed house, hidden away on the border between Wales and Shropshire. Guided tours will last approx. 1 hour and will cover the history of the family and the house which was built in 1612 by Sir Edward Trevor and then enlarged in the early 19th century by Lady Dungannon. The formal West Garden will also be open (weather dependent). Coffee/tea and cake available. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. This event is part of Open Doors 2013. Wrexham. Saturday 14th September

Caer Alyn. Open Doors 2013

Caer Alyn Home is designed to engage and enthuse local communities and people about their past. During the day you will experience the working of an archaeological site as we try and unravel its history. Hands – on activities for adults and children as well as guided tours will be taking place throughout the site. Come and meet our young archaeology group CAYA and have a go at being an archaeologist for the day. Refreshments and free car parking available on the day. This event is part of Open Doors 2013. Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Walk 2. Open Doors 2013

Enjoy a guided tour of Trevor Basin. The walk will take us across and underneath the aqueduct. Get up close and personal with over 200 years of history. The tour will carry on along the embankment to the lead works and promises to offer an insight into the industrial revolution. (Approx a 1.5 hour walk). Join us for coffee and a short presentation on the refurbishment of the Stiwt Theatre The presentation will be followed by a tour of the Grade II* listed building which includes many original Art Deco features. Africa Entsha

The sensational Africa Entsha are returning to Wrexham at the end of their UK tour to run a singing workshop and perform in concert on 14th September. Africa Entsha is a five piece a cappella group from South African township Soweto, who reached a global audience with their performance at the South African World Cup opening ceremony. Their sound blends western pop elements of the male vocal harmony tradition alongside the soft and exhilarating spirit of traditional South African songs. Since coming to the UK three years ago the group have grown massively in popularity, being nominated for Edinburgh Fringe Best Live Act last year, and this year being awarded a five star review at Brighton Fringe. Experience the unique style of Africa Entsha for yourself – come along to the singing workshop where you will get the chance to learn and sing with the group, and then watch them perform with Wrexham’s very own Community Choir later the same evening. Bethlehem Chapel,Penuel Chapel & Ponciau Park-Open Doors 2013

A guided walk to Grade II* listed Bethlehem Chapel and Penuel Chapel. A short talk on the history of each chapel will be given with ample time to investigate both buildings. Weather permitting we shall return to the Stiwt via the Ponciau Park and the vista will allow a detailed explanation and visual history of the mines and their influence on the other industries and the community. Antiques And Collectors Fair

A monthly collectors fair selling a wide variety of antiques and collectibles, including glass, ceramics, militaria, pictures and prints, books, ephemera, jewellery, postcards etc.

Mystery shoppers

Have you ever left a shop feeling delighted by the level of service you recived, or wishing you had taken your custom elsewhere? Wewant to make sure that all our customers have a positive experiance when using our services by recruting a pool of mystery shoppers. Mystery shopers are enthusiastic, With good reporting and observational skills. They anonymously test our services by phoning us, emailing us, writing to us, carryiong out spot checks or visiting our offices. They then tell us about the service they received. We use this feedback to improve what we do and the way that we do it. Mystery shoppers carry out a mystery shopping exercise no more than twice a year. We will cover out a pocket expanses. We also provide free training in a fun, informal setting.

Tuesday 17th September

Website and Social Media Review Group

Wrexham Website Review Group members are tenants who voluntarily help us monitor our housing website to make sure it is up to date and contains information tenants want to see. Some attend meetings in various community facilities to feedback their experience of website accessibility, quality of information and suggestions on how it could be improved. Others review the website remotely and send us their suggestions for improvements. They also look at the use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. We are currently looking for new members from across Wrexham who have access to the internet and an interest in websites. If you would like to make a difference and have an interest in website design, blogs, Facebook and other social media, please get in touch with us. Civic Society Meeting

The Wrexham Area Civic Society presents a talk entitled “WREXHAM AND THE FIRST WORLD WAR”. It is to be given by Phil Coops. As the anniversary of the outbreak of the First World Way approaches, Mr. Coops has produce a Broughton and Brynteg War Memorial book, and has been closely involved with the restoration of Brynteg War Memorial. All are welcome, admission is free.
