Arriva have confirmed a tree ended up on the line between Wrexham and Ruabon, causing delays. “Trees on the line between Chester and Shrewsbury causing delays of up to 60 minutes to trains between these stations. There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least midnight”
They add on their update: “Early morning services may be subject to delays due to running at reduced speed to confirm lines are clear of fallen trees, debris and flooding. Additionally, some service will have fewer coaches than usual due to the number of trains sustaining damage from hitting trees and other debris on Tuesday evening.”

Across North Wales ‘Storm Barney’ has caused high winds and heavy rain – with the bad weather hitting Wrexham shortly before 4pm this afternoon.
Throughout the evening and county there have been similar reports of trees being blown over. A large tree near the Beeches, Gresford has blown over and is currently blocking both lanes near the restaurant.
Kelly has been in touch with Wrexham.com to say that as a result of the tree being blown over, buses and cars have been turning around from both directions. Thanks to Jamie who sent the above picture of recovery work and police on the scene around 9:30 tonight.

The Aberystwyth / Chester – Shrewsbury – Wolverhampton – Birmingham line is also affected, with mention of Wrexham on their updates:
“Due to trees blocking the line at Telford Central and Shifnal and due to overhead power lines being damaged at Coseley, Arriva Trains Wales services between Shrewsbury and Birmingham are suspended in both directions. No replacement road transport is currently available. Passengers are advised not to travel on this route where possible.”
