The Council told this mornings Town Centre Forum that the ‘Wrexham Beach’ and associated four days of events had received the green light from senior management as well as the forum itself.

The Council said there are ‘some budget issues’ and gave a costing break down explaining where the £5960 total cost will go, with £960 of the cost being based off the work of the Council’s events team. This leaves £5000, with a £2500 contribution from the Council and the remaining £2500 being found from a sponsor.

The Council said “The forum and rest of town need to find £2.5k or if stuff can be lent borrowed or donated then even better.”

Town Centre Forum Chairman Kevin Critchley said “I will find the money somehow”. We assume he means Eagles Meadow rather than him personally!

Alex Jones from The Bank Bar in town said “If there is an opportunity to make some money from it I would like to be involved, as would most people in the room as it is only fair”.

A working group has been formed and will have their initial meeting next week to discuss how to involve local traders. Concern was voiced by some Forum members that they miss the opportunity to get involved, with trade going to people outside the town or national/multinational companies in town – for example Cafe Nero as it is close to Llwyn Isaf.

If the Beach is successful the Council have said they are not against carrying it on, saying “It makes sense to build on any success”.
