Wrexham MP praises ‘wonderful’ community spirit at Rhosddu Park fun day
Hundreds of people of all ages enjoyed an afternoon of fun in the sun at a Wrexham park.
The Rhosddu Park Play Day, which took place on Tuesday 29th May in blazing half-term sunshine, has been branded a huge success.
The annual event is organised by the office of Ian Lucas MP, in collaboration with local groups and businesses.
Mr Lucas, MP for Wrexham, set up the first fun day in 2016 and it proved so popular, it became an annual event.
During the day there were a range of fun activities and attractions to enjoy, including a bouncy castle, treasure hunt, dog display and show, face painting, a storyteller, Morris dancers, plant and craft stalls, tennis lessons, plus various games and toys.
Free refreshments and cakes were provided by the nearby Spa store, church members and Asda.
Commenting on the event, Mr Lucas said: “It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves. The sun shone again – we seem to be blessed on every occasion we hold these play days – and about 400 people of all ages turned out to take part in games, competitions, play football and tennis and enjoy ice creams, among many other activities.
“The support of the Rhosddu community has been wonderful over the past few years. The end result has been a transformation in people’s enjoyment of the park, topped off by the recent completion of improvement works to the play equipment.
“Thanks to everyone who took part. I enjoyed it hugely and its shows how much we can all achieve when we work together.”
Other organisations involved in the event included St James’ Church, the Salvation Army, Wrexham Community Church, Rhosddu Methodist Chapel, North Wales Police, Rhosddu Community Council and AVOW.
