A Wrexham man has been left in a critical condition after he was assaulted outside a pub in the town.

The man, said to be in his 40s, sustained serious head injuries after he was assaulted and fell to the ground outside the Fairfield public house at the junction of Erddig Road and Wellington Road at 6.30pm last night.

He was taken by ambulance to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, but later transferred to Walton Hospital in Liverpool, where his condition is described as critical.

Police believe a large number of people witnessed the disturbance and they are keen for anyone who did, or who may have witnessed the assault on the victim to come forward.

DI Martin Davies said; “This was a nasty incident which has left a man in hospital with critical head injuries. We know there were many people in the area of the pub at the time of the disturbance and I would appeal to them to come forward and assist us with our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call North Wales Police on 101.
