Members of Wrexham Maelor Lions donated 17 boxes of treats for Royal Welsh troops based out in Afghanistan yesterday.

Pens, notepads, shampoo, toothpaste biscuits, razor blades, deodrants sweets and a big bag of biscuits for the soldier’s dogs were all included in the packages which will be flown out to Afghanistan.

Wrexham.com went down to see the goods being handed over to Fusilier Edwards and Corporal Sale at the Hightown Barracks yesterday afternoon.

Corporal Sale and Fusilier Edwards, who is due to go out to Camp Bastion next week both expressed their gratitude for the gifts.

The boxes were filled thanks to over £300 donated by local people during the Maelor Lions fundraising activities around Wrexham.

A collection at Morrisons on Ruthin Road saw £210 raised and the store also donated goods to the value of £40 as did the Co-op in Borras.

More money was raised at a collection outside Asda.

The boxes will be taken to Dale Camp in Chester before being flown out to Royal Welsh troops in Afghanistan.

Derek Edwards from Wrexham Maelor Lions said: “The people of Wrexham donated very kindly to help us buy some treats for the troops and we want them to see where their money is going.”
