Wrexham Lager Returns This Weekend
An official date has been set for Wrexham Lager’s with the first pint to be pulled this Saturday.
The first drop of the world famous lager will go on sale at The Buck House in Bangor-on-Dee at 4pm and the opportunity to be the first person to taste it is being auctioned off on the day.
Saturday’s launch will kick off with a performance from Brymbo Male Voice Choir at 6pm and as well as the chance to drink the first pint six tours of the brewery along with a voucher for a meal at the Sleepy Panda restaurant will be auctioned off.
All proceeds will be split between Nightingale House and Hope House Hospice, Wrexham FC and Wrexham Rugby Club.
Wrexham Lager stopped brewing in Wrexham back in 2000 and by 2003 the iconic brewery buildings had been demolished signalling the end of an era.
However, the brand has now been revived thanks to the Roberts family who run F Jones wholesale distributors on Wrexham Industrial Estate.
They had been planning Wrexham Lager’s comeback for several years and in the past few months have installed specially made brewing equipment brought in from Germany in an industrial unit on St George’s Crescent to begin the production process.
This Saturday will see their dreams realised as the 4.0% lager starts its initial sale run exclusively at The Buck House where its comeback was first conceived, there are also plans to bring it to an as yet unnamed town centre pub in the near future.
Speaking to Wrexham.com back in July one of the men behind the revival, Vaughan Roberts said:
“Those who drank the lager in the 90s will tell you that by the end of its run it wasn’t the same beer.”
“The recipe wasn’t the same and had become run down, and the strength reduced to about 3.3%, but we’ll be bringing back the original recipe and it will be 4%.”
It will only be available in pubs and there are no plans to sell it in bottle or can form at present.
