The women’s team from Hafan Shaolin Cymru based in Ruabon impressed crowds at Llangollen’s Women’s Festival of Music and Arts on Saturday.

The group held a lively demonstration of Kung Fu and self defence techniques under the instruction of Shaolin Monk Pol Wong.

The festival, described as a celebration of all things female, drew large crowds over the weekend and hosted a wide range of events showcasing singers, artists and a multitude of different performers.

Kung Fu master Pol Wong said: “I was very happy to put on a display at the Women’s Festival which gave me a chance to underline the fact that Kung Fu and true martial arts in general, is not about being macho or solely about fighting.

“The girls all enjoyed putting on the display and were very keen to show the benefits of Kung Fu training for women, particularly the personal development side of the training such as confidence building and of course the health, fitness and self defence aspects. I’m very pleased that the audience enjoyed the performance and also got to see a little of what real Kung Fu is all about.”
