Wrexham hospice seeks volunteers for brand new project

A new project aimed at supporting local people with advanced heart failure is looking for volunteers to get involved in the New Year.

Starting from January 8th, Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham is teaming up with Dr. Jenny Welstand and Wrexham Maelor Hospital’s Heart Failure Team to deliver improved palliative care services for those living with advanced heart failure, and their families.

Funded initially for 18 months by the St. James’ Place Charitable Foundation, the project aims to look at how patients living with advanced heart failure can best be supported in terms of wellbeing and care.

Sister Kay Ryan, outpatient services co-ordinator at Nightingale House explains: “This is a new collaborative project looking to build long-term support structures and self-help mechanisms for people across our catchment area experiencing heart failure.

“We will be piloting monthly drop-in meetings for patients over the next four months and have invited a group of patients to attend.

“They will be given the opportunity to share their own thoughts and ideas about the drop-in going forward but in order to make this idea sustainable in the long term we will need volunteer support to help us run the sessions.

“This type of volunteering may appeal to people who have experience of caring for someone with heart failure in a personal or professional capacity or to those who enjoy meeting people and working in a sociable environment. It’s a great opportunity to get involved with something new for the New Year and we encourage anyone interested to get in touch.”

The first drop-in session will be held at Nightingale House on January 8th and will run from 11am to 3pm.
