The new Wrexham AFC Shop has been officially opened by two of its fans.

Chris Williams and Mark Lamb cut the ribbon to open the shop before the recent home victory over Woking. This match was also the first “autism-friendly” football match held in the UK, which saw the Racecourse play host to over 50 young fans with autism and their families.

The new shop has been funded by Wrexham Supporters Trust’s Community Share scheme and a plaque has been erected within the shop to acknowledge the 325 members who have currently invested in the scheme, and so far raised over £140,000.

Mark and Chris were randomly drawn out to perform the ceremony and were accompanied by Wrexham team manager Andy Morrell, alongwith football club chief executive, Don Bircham and WST Chairman, Peter Jones.

Mark and Chris both said that they were honoured to be drawn out to perform the opening. The new shop has space for a much wider range of merchandise and club clothing to be sold. Pride of place in the display area is a large poster of the 2013 FA Trophy winning team, behind the gleaming trophy itself.

Don Bircham said@ “The new shop will increase revenue at the club by maximising the club’s ability to sell merchandise and tickets.”

Peter Jones said: “This is exactly the type of long-term project that the Community Share scheme was set up to provide funds for. We would encourage those fans who have not already done so to consider investing to enable the club to undertake other infrastructure projects that will benefit the club in the mid to long term.”

Information about the scheme can be found at www.wst.org.uk.
