Wrexham’s Food Festival 2013
This weekend was the Wrexham Food Festival, and Wrexham.com popped down to see what was on offer.
Full of local businesses, the event was held to raise valuable funds for Nightingale House Hospice and aimed to raise the profile of locally produced food.
Held in a marquee on Llwyn Isaf (There is a debate on the field’s name on our forum here!), hundreds of people flocked to the festival early to sample and pick up food.
There was a surprising amount packed into the venue, with stalls covering everything from pizza slices made of chocolate (courtesy of Aballu), to the more exotic ostrich burgers and zebra burgers. It was also good to see a stalls representing local primary schools, offering visitors to sample the school menus.
One of our personal favourites was ‘Cleopatra’s; a stall specialising in traditional South African biscuits. After sampling some buttermilk and aniseed biscuits (along with a chat with the lovely and very helpful staff), we left with what can only be described as a huge bag of biscuits.
Easily one of the more popular stalls was Wrexham Lager, which did literally keep the drinks flowing throughout the day.We also received a number of tweets over the weekend from people telling us how much they were enjoying their own pint of Wrexham Lager!
Outside the market there was live music throughout the day; along with a stall selling freshly squeezed lemonade, along with Thai Food, freshly made pizzas and American street food, which seemed to go down well with many people!
There was plenty available for everyone to do, with live cookery demonstrations taking place throughout the day. Not to mention the children’s bread making workshops, courtesy of the Village Bakery.
The only issue that people seemed to have with the day was the limited amount of space in the marquee, with overcrowding causing some issues when people tried to stop to look at stalls.
Our verdict? Great food, great people and reasonably priced. But maybe next year a bigger venue will help make this event a bigger success than it already was.
We asked our twitter followers for their thoughts, and below are a selection of tweets we had in. If you went you can join the debate on the Food Festival 2013 thread on our forums here, or tweet us @wrexham !

@WelshAlien @wrexham I agree. Poor choice, not many stalls. Llan is waaay better. But at least there was Wxm lager!

@wrexham It's a victim of its own success. Perhaps next year a bigger marquee; or at the very least a one-way system round the indoor stalls

@wrexham it's too small. Wxm has potential to put on something big. Take advantage!!
