New Wrexham Drug And Alcohol Hub Officially Opens
A new centre that will offer support to people living with drug and alcohol addiction in Wrexham has opened.
Champions’ House on 9-11 Grove Road was opened officially by Deputy Minister for Health, Vaughan Gething yesterday. The centre will offer a supportive environment for those seeking help in recovering from addiction.
Funded by the Welsh Government Champions’ House will provide a local recovery network for anyone who is looking towards a future without addiction. Overall the Welsh Government have provided £536,000 funding for the purchase and development of the site.
Mr Gething said: “I am pleased the Welsh Government has been able to provide more than £500,000 for this new facility for people who are looking to escape the trap of addiction, which can have devastating consequences for them, their family and the wider community.
“Champions’ House will be open outside office hours and at weekends and include facilities for families, carers and children. I wish the team here every success as they start work providing these important services.”
The centre, run by third sector group CAIS, will support referrals for an estimated 1,500 people, helping those who have recently left structured treatment.
The first and second floors of the building will be used by CAIS and local criminal justice staff working on projects across the Wrexham area. Services available include counselling, therapeutic interventions, a drug intervention programme and the Change Step Military Veteran’s service.
Clive Wolfendale, chief executive of CAIS, said: “Champions’ House will provide a welcoming home for service users, voluntary groups and other agencies working towards Recovery in Wrexham.
“We are all very grateful for the support of the Welsh Government in the development of this project.”
Further information on CAIS and the services they provide can be found on their website here.
