A Wrexham community leader has praised council workers for their “prompt response” after part of a large tree fell in high winds over the Bank Holiday weekend, blocking off a road.

Stansty Road in Rhosddu had to be closed after debris came down near to Ysgol Plas Coch during the strong gales which hit the area on Saturday morning.

Cllr Marc Jones said Wrexham Council staff were on the scene to clear the branches soon after the incident happened.

They also took the time to move a nest of crows to a neighbouring tree to ensure their safety.

The Plaid Cymru representative for the Grosvenor ward has now thanked workers for their efforts.

He said: “The high winds caused branches from a large tree on Stansty Road to fall on Saturday morning, blocking the road by Ysgol Plas Coch.

“The remaining tree was split and damaged, making it unsafe and a risk to surrounding homes.

“Within an hour work had started to clear the debris from the road but the high winds meant it was impossible to fell the tree safely.

“Work continued over the bank-holiday weekend and by Monday the road was re-opened.

“I know residents were very worried about the tree and I’d like to thank all the workers who carried out the job efficiently and the prompt response from the council.”
