Wrexham Council plans to honour the town’s Olympic heroes with a civic celebration it has been announced.

The exact details have yet to be revealed but a council spokesperson confirmed that a “big civic celebration” would be held.

The event is being held to recognise the achievements of the town’s Olympians including Tom James from Coedpoeth, who won gold in the mens coxless fours for the second time at London 2012.

Silver medallist rower Chris Bartley from Farndon and Vicky Thornley from Holt who won a rowing bronze will both be celebrated at the event too.

Amongst ideas mooted for the event are a party on Llwyn Isaf outside the Guildhall and an open top bus parade.

Tom James’s gold has already been acknowledged by the painting of a gold postbox outside the post office on Town Hill.
