Wrexham Braced For Cold Snap As Snow Predicted
Wrexham is braced for a cold snap this weekend with snow forecast for Saturday.
Around 2 inches of snow is expected to fall over North East Wales according to a weather warning put out by the Met Office.
The snow is predicted to fall between midday and midnight on Saturday with sleet and rain set to follow, which could create icy road conditions.
According to one of our followers on Twitter, Joy Edwards (@joywxm), there were temperatures of -9C in Kingsmill this morning.
Several followers tweeted in pictures of the temperature as displayed on their car, Carolyn O’Leary (@carolynao) recorded temperatures of -8C in Hope this morning and Sam Purschke (@69_Sammy_69) reported temperatures of -6.5C in Gwersyllt.
According to our weather station (@wrexhamweather) temperatures in town reached a low of -5.5C earlier this morning.
Wrexham Council’s fleet of gritters are expected to keep its 11 key routes, which encompass 40% of the town’s roads, clear overnight in preparation for the cold snap.
The authority has stocked up on 8,000 tonnes of salt to avoid a repeat of the winter of 2009 when they came within 100 tonnes of completely running out.
North Wales Police has advised drivers to be careful if travelling in the icy conditions.
Below are a selection of pictures from our Twitter followers showing the winter weather.
