Wrexham BNP candidate Mike Whitby has ruffled a few feathers after it was revealed that he rented a pigeon shed in Wavertree in order to be eligible for the Liverpool 2012 mayoral elections.

Mr Whitby is also standing to be elected to Wrexham Council in the local elections representing Coedpoeth, where he currently sits as community councillor.

Due to living in Coedpoeth he is required to either provide proof of property ownership or a business interest in Liverpool to stand in the mayoral elections.

In an investigation by the Liverpool Echo it transpired that the storage facility rented by Mr Whitby, which he mentions in his nomination papers, is in fact a disused pigeon shed at the Cricketers Club in Wavertree.

The revelation has been branded a farce by local anti fascist campaigners.

In another twist it has emerged that his seat as community councillor for Coedpoeth could be under threat.

A complaint was made to the Adjudication Panel for Wales that Mr Whitby brought his constituency into disrepute after he was arrested for Contempt of Court.

The arrest was made during a protest at the court hearing of a Wirral man who did not pay his council tax where several right wing protesters attempted to make a citizen’s arrest on the judge for “treason”.

Mr Whitby was arrested for refusing to give his name and address to the court.

A spokesman for the Welsh Adjudication Panel said: “We have not arranged a hearing into the case yet. It’s with us, having come from the ombudsman.”
