At this mornings Town Centre Forum the Council gave a progress update on the ‘Wrexham Beach’, appealing for businesses to get involved in the project.

Amanda Davies said “The businesses seem up for it which is great, but we need more to come forward to see how we can work together”

“If you have anything that could help, marquees or anything like that, please get in touch. We would appreciate the help as its all about helping each other”

The outline draft programme was released stating it will happen on the 7-10th August:

  • Day 1 is going to be using the ‘National Playday’ as a basis for the days theme.
  • Day 2 will be a ‘fairground’ theme, so expect Punch and Judy, Mr Whippy even fish and chips perhaps!
  • Day 3 is planned to be alongside the ‘Walk of Wales’ project, with the army being approached – so we could see tanks outside the council!
  • Day 4 will be a Saturday, and the focus will be on music. Live music events will take place, and perhaps spread out through town to Queens Square and Eagles Meadow.

The Council have met with their counterparts in Liverpool to see how their ‘beach’ is run, however the Liverpool One site has the benefit of around 30,000 people per day footfall, and the event runs for six weeks.

The meeting was told lots of Manchester and Liverpool based businesses have been in touch, but local businesses have not. The ‘outside’ companies have offered money to take part, whereas inference is local companies are preferred and would be able to do it for free.

Wrexham.com dubbed the event ‘Wrexham On Sea’ however the name is in doubt as having water at the event would incur a host of added costs and safety elements. We believe it is still going to be a beach, but with the tide out!
