Work on the new OW People’s Market development in Wrexham town centre is well underway.

The former market hall, which closed for refurbishment in January 2017, has now been stripped of all the old stalls, pipework and heating systems that were previously along the ceiling.

The shops in South Arcade have also had a complete repaint, along with the stairwells to the multi-storey car park.

Some new images issued by Wrexham Council also show the work that has taken place for the new roof lights from Level 2a of the People’s Market Car Park. This work will include three sections of roof lights being formed, which will ultimately be visible from the ground floor of the centre. Jo Marsh and Karen Whittingham, members of the Oriel Wrexham team viewed the work around creating the protective barricades around the roof lights (photographed).

The roof lights will provide more natural light into space, along with the introduction of new glazed entrances.

In March 2017 new images of how the interior of the development will look once complete were released.

At the time Wrexham Council said: “The artistic images show different areas in the centre and how they can be utilised by the public. They give an overview of how the centre will look and feel and provide detail on what will be included within the building such as the market stalls, galleries, food courts and office spaces.”

Once complete the OW Peoples Market will have two gallery spaces, one of which will be climate controlled to allow for a wider variety of exhibitions to be brought to Wrexham.

The centre will also have 20 market spaces and three food outlets with open seating into the market space.

Wynne Construction are on site carrying out the works, with the official opening to take place in the Spring of 2018.

Throughout the works, members of the public are reminded that the businesses within the South Arcade are open as usual. Updates on the project can also be found on the new noticeboard within Café in the Corner in the South Arcade.
