Work improving men’s changing rooms at Waterworld to start next month
Work refurbishing the men’s changing rooms at a town centre leisure centre will get underway next month
The improvements at Waterworld will include the creation of a new, open-plan area with bench seating; new, individual mixer shower units; glass-fronted shower cubicles and LED lighting.
Work refurbishing the men’s gym changing rooms will start on Monday 3rd December with the goal of completing all works in the area before the end of the month.
It comes off the back of a £1.5 million revamp of the leisure centre which was carried out last year.
Waterworld, which is operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Wrexham Council, was one of several across the county to undergo improvement works – totalling an overall investment of £2.7 million into local facilities.
As part of the revamp saw the expansion and refurbishment of the gym area and the introduction of a state-of-the-art MYRIDE indoor cycling studio – with virtual cycling software, offering scenic locations and a highly immersive cycling experience for personal and group training.
A new reception area was also installed, including a refurbished café and seating area selling Costa Coffee; along with improvements to the ground floor women’s changing room for gym users.
One of the changes that wasn’t carried out during the works was the refurb of the ground floor male changing rooms near the gym.
During the improvement works next month male customers are asked to use the first floor changing area for changing and showering during this time.
Cllr Andrew Atkinson, lead member for youth services and anti-poverty, with responsibility for leisure, said: “We know one of the key changes that customers have wanted ever since the wider refurbishment work at Waterworld was the improvement of the male changing rooms near the gym on the ground floor, so we’re very pleased to be able to announce these works.
“We’re hopeful that the works will be finished before the New Year, and want to thank users in advance for their patience and co-operation during this time.”
