Work on the town’s new police station is almost complete.

The new development, which is based in the former Oriel Wrecsam in the town’s library, will become home to the town centre officers and staff.

Work on the new ‘front of house facility’ has been ongoing since spring 2017, with press release issued at the time stating that works on the site were expected to take 44 weeks to complete and that the station would be up and running by last summer. However its completion has been delayed.

The exterior of the former Oriel has undergone a revamp – with new windows and a curved frontage installed.

The move to the new divisional headquarters in Llay and the new town centre base comes as a result of iconic / hideous (delete as appropriate) police tower coming to the end of its lifespan.

In January 2019 after more than 40 years of serving the town, the station closed its doors for good.

Since then the Wrexham-based local based policing and front of counter services are based in Crown Buildings. However they are expected to relocate to the new base next month.

The move across the road from the Bodhyfryd site to Llwyn Isaf has been on the cards for several years, with plans first mooted way back in 2014. Just a year earlier in 2013 it was revealed the main police headquarters for north east Wales was to relocate from the town to Llay.

Just across the way from the new station, the promised work felling a prominent horse chestnut tree inside the Jubilee Garden is also underway.

Wrexham Council announced last month that the tree would be chopped down due to being badly decayed.

A new tree has been planted on Llwyn Isaf and a further replacement tree will be planted next winter.
