The Welsh Liberal Democrats have today unveiled their parliamentary candidates for Wrexham and Clwyd South for the forthcoming General Election on 8th June.

They have chosen Carole O`Toole MBE for Wrexham and Bruce Roberts for Clwyd South.

A full statement released this afternoon about the two candidates can be found below:

Carole O`Toole MBE was until recently the county borough councillor for Maesydre, but stood down having served on Wrexham Council for nine years.

She was previously Chair of Governors at Yale College, leading the college through the merger with Deeside College to form one of Wales’s largest and most successful further education institutions, Coleg Cambria. She has been an active member of a wide range of voluntary and community bodies for over 35 years. In 2014, she was awarded the MBE for her services to education and the community in North Wales.

Carole who is Chair of the Welsh Liberal Democrats` National Executive Committee, says, “I am delighted to have been chosen to be the parliamentary candidate for Wrexham. I do believe in the current political climate, Wrexham must elect a MP with experience and a track record of working within our communities. I believe I have the necessary experience and am looking forward to putting across the Liberal Democrats` policies for this forthcoming election.”

Bruce Roberts who will be contesting Clwyd South, is doing so for the third consecutive General Election. Bruce, a local accountant, has been an active member of our local communities for many years.

Formerly, Chair of Governors at Victoria Infant School, he has also been a community councillor and was until recently Chair of Glyndwr University`s Audit Committee. He has also volunteered as a charity trustee and also as a business mentor for The Prince’s Trust and Careers Wales.

Bruce said: “As a Clwyd South resident, my priority would always be my constituents. I do believe that a Lib Dem MP is necessary to put the brakes on Theresa May`s disastrous plans for a Hard Brexit.

The country voted to leave the EU in last year`s referendum but it was never made clear what leaving the European Union actually meant.

“I will continue to fight for the closest possible co-operation with our European neighbours, for the benefit of everybody, and push for the people to have a final say on any Brexit deal.”
