Police are urging residents to make sure their houses are secure even when they are at home, following a number of burglaries in the Wrexham area.

Thieves have been targeting homes where they can see residents in their front room perhaps watching television. The burglars then take the opportunity to gain entry to another part of the house unnoticed and make off with valuables.

In recent weeks addresses in Pentre Broughton, Ponciau, Minera Marford, Chirk and Rhosymedre have been burgled in this way.

Wrexham Rural Inspector Jackie Downes said: “I would ask residents not only to make sure doors and windows are locked before going to bed, but also during the early evening. You should draw your curtains when watching television or sitting in a front room so people cannot see into your home.

“I would also ask neighbours to be vigilant and take an interest in the safety and security of any vulnerable people living near them.”

Detective Inspector Neil Harrison of Wrexham CID added: “We have dedicated resources in place in relation to these investigations with a view to bringing to justice those responsible at the earliest opportunity.

“They are targeting the most vulnerable in our communities and I would ask that if anyone has any information that may assist the police in the pursuit of those involved, please contact the Burglary Team at Wrexham CID on 101.”

Alternatively, people with information can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
