Walk On Wales Coming To Wrexham
On September 28th, Wrexham town centre will play host to a ‘Walk On Wales’ fun day.
Plans are in place for a town centre market, a selection of craft and produce stalls and lots of activities including an inflatable assault course.
On Llwyn Isaf there will be live music in the band stand, along with military vehicles, uniforms and decommissioned weapons on display.
Walk on Wales is a charitable walk that will cover the 870 mile long Welsh Coast Path, with 11 teams consisting of both veterans and serving members of the Welsh Guards, walking in relay from 25 August until 2 November. The sponsored walk aims to raise £1 million in support of Welsh Guardsmen and their families who have been impacted by active service.
Walk on Wales will be launched in Cardiff on the 25th of August when Team 1 walk from Llandaff Cathedral to Chepstow, carrying the ceremonial silver baton, inscribed with the names of the 50 Welsh Guardsmen who have died in combat since World War ll. From Chepstow, a cycling team will carry the precious baton to Chester Racecourse, from where Team 2 will begin the long coastal walk on 29th August.
Throughout the day collections will be made for the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal and Combat Stress.
You can help raise funds by joining the teams of walkers on any section of the route by taking a look at the Walk on Wales website, www.walkonwales.org.
