Poet Laureate Martin Daws will be the first guest speaker at the first Voicebox of 2014 at Un-Deg-Un this evening.

The Young Peoples Poet Laureate for Wales will be taking part in the first Voicebox of the year at Wrexham’s pop up art space. Martin will be the first of an array local writers, poets, lyricists, beatboxers, comedians, singers and story-tellers who will attend Voicebox this year.

Organised by local student & writer Tim Humphreys-Jones with THIS Project, Voicebox will this month feature a special guest in the form of Martin Daws. With extensive experience performing at spoken word shows, music events and major festivals, Martin is widely acknowledged as a highly original poet whose performances guarantee power, edge and tenderness in equal measure.

On being asked to perform at this new spoken word event Martin said: ‘It’s a massive honour to be the first guest performer at Voicebox, and it’s a genuine pleasure to offer my support to this exciting new spoken word series. Spoken word is the cutting edge of underground theatre in the UK and I applaud the initiative of Voicebox and Undegun in bringing it to Wrexham.’
In his role as poet laureate Martin works across Wales to engage and inspire young people to empower themselves through their creativity as well as representing Wales internationally; creating partnerships and sharing skills with other socially engaged poetry organisations and practitioners around the world.

The event will begin at 7:00pm at the former JJB store on Regent Street tonight. Entry is £2.
