A UK wide payment issue is affecting local businesses this afternoon.

Laura told us: “Aldi Plas Coch can’t take credit card payments at the moment. Cash only and Boots cash machine has run out of cash!”

Steph at Sainsburys said: “Bit chaotic in Sainsburys… cards not working. Staff not informing customers on entry, letting them do a full shop and not telling them until after trolleys are scanned!”

Dave told us: “Just got back from Aldi and Morrisons, had to get money out of the cash point as my card didn’t work. There were big queues by the cash point aswell.”

In a statement VISA said: “Visa is currently experiencing a service disruption. This incident is preventing some Visa transactions in Europe from being processed.

“We are investigating the cause and working as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.”

PaymentSense, a payment provider, tweeted the following info:

The issue appears to be replicated across the UK several people have tweeted pictures of large quite at cashpoints as people draw money out to pay for shopping.

Tweets from around the UK.

Top pic: Cash, you don’t get these problems with that! Pic replaced with one from Sainsburys taken by Liam.
