Have you ever wondered what day to day life might be like for people living with dementia?

An unique and insightful experience offering the chance to ‘walk in the shoes’ of a person living with dementia will once again take place in Wrexham next month.

The Dementia bus, which will be based in Gwersyllt on April 24th, provides a virtual experience into what life could be like for a person living with dementia by challenging your senses and ability to carry out day to day tasks.

The Virtual Dementia Tour was invented 20 years ago and is the only scientifically and medically proven method of giving a person with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like and gives people an opportunity to walk in the world of people living with dementia and then change the environment and their practice to potentially allow people with dementia to stay at home longer and improve their care.

Last year Wrexham.com had the chance to take part in the experience and without giving too much away, once inside the bus, your senses and fine motor skills are challenged, making the most basic of tasks difficult and seemingly impossible.

We were told at the time that everyone reacts differently to what they are presented with in the bus and that everyone takes away a different experience.

By walking in the shoes of a person with dementia, you can start to understand the issues that they experience every day. You will experience being confused, isolated, lost, intimidated, vulnerable and much more and therefore understand what you need to change to improve quality of care.

However the aim is that everyone has a clearer understanding of life with dementia and the small things you can do to help make a person’s life easier.

The bus will be at Gwersyllt Congregational Church, Dodds Lane, Gwersyllt, on April 24 and you can take the tour during the following times:

9.15–11.45am
12.15–2.45pm
3.00–5.15pm

Booking is essential so to book your place email or ring 01978 292066.
