The Village Bakery, Wrexham have recently recruited two Deeside College students as new apprentices.

The Village Bakery’s Director, Christien Jones, visited Deeside College to help promote his business to college apprentices.  The Village Bakery is a proud, family run local organisation based in Wrexham, that offers superior products and as such were looking for dedicated and enthusiastic Engineering Apprentices to join their business.

Christien gave an uplifting presentation to a group of 30 Engineering Apprentices which gave them the background to the business which started as a small “Village Bakery” but now owns 3 purpose built bakeries, including 1 craft and two fully automated.  The passion that Christien has for the company is evident.

Following the presentation the Engineering students were given the opportunity to apply for an Apprenticeship at The Village Bakery and following an interview process both Tim Pluves, 20 from Llangollen completing his Level 3 Manufacturing Engineering course and Darryl Fountain, 20 from Buckley coming to the end of his Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations courses were offered positions at the company.

The new apprentices will have the opportunity to work on state of the art plant machinery as well as working alongside the Village Bakery’s highly skilled and time served Engineers.

Nick Tyson, Head of Engineering at Deeside College said: “Christien gave a fantastic presentation and immediately engaged with the students.  We had a large number of student enquiries regarding the apprenticeship places and we are extremely pleased that two of our students will be progressing to such a reputable and supportive working environment.”

Christien said: “At the Village Bakery we are investing in young people and offer a variety of training opportunities.  We are one of the larger local employers in the Wrexham area and proud of the contribution that we are making to the local economy.  It is vital that we attract the very best young talent to ensure the business has the right skills for the future.”

It was extremely enjoyable to revisit Deeside College after completing my own training there many years ago.  The outstanding facilities and apprenticeship provision at Deeside College are of an excellent standard.  I look forward to developing our partnership and hopefully recruiting more Deeside College apprentices in the near future.”
