A shop owner aims to raise awareness of shoplifting in Wrexham after uploading CCTV footage to YouTube.

24 year old Mohammad Asim and 21 year Mohammad Baidya who opened Mobilapz on Lord Street ten months ago, decided to upload their CCTV footage following a shoplifting incident in their store.

The theft which took place towards the end of January saw a charity box raising money for Wrexham mosque stolen from the counter.

The shop, which specialises in repairing and unlocking mobile phones, laptops, desktops and game consoles has become a key target for shoplifting. In October last year the Mobilapz was broken into, with thieves taking around £5000 worth of mobile phones, laptops and computers.

Since then the shop has had a number of CCTV cameras installed to prevent not only similar events from happening again but to also warn other local businesses of shoplifters in the area.

Mohammad Baidya said: “The videos were put on YouTube to alert people of the shoplifting in the area

“Reducing one bad guy from the town helps everyone else.”

The videos on YouTube show 2 separate incidents to have taken place this year. The first includes the theft of a laptop and the second is of a shoplifter removing the charity box from the till. The video of the shoplifting of the laptop shows two men distracting the shopkeeper while a third man puts a laptop under his jacket. The second shows a woman trying to sell the shop worker some items, before putting the charity box into her bag while the worker wasn’t looking.

The videos of the two incidents can be found on YouTube, the first is of the theft of the charity box:
